Early Life
From ages 3-12, I grew up in care in homes, spending five years in foster care. Due to psychological and behavioural problems that were connected to the abuse I suffered in the care of Social Services and foster care, I was taught in special schools.
I have had psychological problems since childhood but was also diagnosed with epilepsy from the age of seven years old. I was diagnosed with psychosis in 2018 and have suffered from anxiety and depression for the best part of my life.
Achievements
For two whole years, from 2002 to 2004, I started teaching myself, learning more in that timespan than I did in the 12 years I spent at school. Following my self-teaching, I attended Birmingham Central Library in the UK to learn English and Maths, achieving Adult Literacy Level 2, Adult Numeracy level 1 and the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) level 2.
The Origin of My Poetry
A devastating marital breakdown in 2002 is what inspired the creation of my first three poems. Unfortunately I gave up on poetry, only to return to the wonderful art form almost two decades later in January 2021, when I rewrote my original three poems. This led to the idea of writing a poem daily to cope with my psychosis, anxiety and depression.
I never really considered writing my poetry as a book until recently, when someone suggested that my journey through a poetic journal could inspire others. I tried meditation and art therapy to cope with my psychosis, anxiety and depression but have found that the poetic journal works for me.
